There is no better way to start this special edition than by first and foremost saying thank you to the many who have supported me from day one of Stonk Enjoyer to now.
So to ring in a fabulous year, here we have a special edition of Stonk Enjoyer🥂

So what if I told you Stonk Enjoyer was a product born from rejection?
This is going to be a little different than the other posts up to now.
But let’s start with this:
I really cannot express the gratefulness I have for all Stonk Enjoyer supporters. The last 5 months have been a whirlwind of excitement and growth beyond my belief.
I started Stonk Enjoyer on 08/13/23 with zero subscribers and a small sub-1k following on X (formerly known as twitter). My background is in Financial writing starting with my promotion to Content Writer at Robinhood where I wrote regulatory-compliant resources for the brokerage team to use for investor education. Essentially I wrote about what a margin call was.
I wanted to be able to have more creativity in my writing so I made a huge jump leaving Robinhood to take some time to travel and decide the next steps in my career pathing.
I worked as a wrangler at a dude ranch in Wyoming, a teacher in Alajuela, Costa Rica, and finally a snowboard instructor in Tahoe, California. In March of 2023, I landed at a Fintech startup and immediately hit the ground writing for them.
In the job hunt process, I interviewed for the financial media company of my dreams. I was so nervous for the interview I absolutely biffed it.
Like bad.
I told them:
“I can’t STAND Google Docs and only use Notion”
The interviewer proceeded to say:
“Oh well we only use Goggle Docs…”
This is not true as I’ve used Google Docs for the entirety of my financial writing career.
But quick word of advice, do NOT say you can’t stand a platform… just don’t do it (especially if it’s the most popular platform in the world and you’re a writer.)
(I also proceeded to forget to call my own mother on her birthday because I was bummed the interview went poorly.)
Stonk Enjoyer: 0
Life: 2
Unsurprisingly, the rejection email came rolling in.
This along with two other writing job rejections led me to start making my own content.
As my Twitter persona, Covered Calls Barbie, gained some momentum, my boyfriend gave me the idea to start a newsletter.
My followers asked where they could see all of my longer-form tweets and videos. I didn’t have an answer for them.
So one sunny day in August I made the Beehiv account on my boyfriend’s couch in Hayes Valley, San Francisco.
Initially, I pushed back. Not wanting to be a “content creator.”
I said there was too much content in the financial space already and it was informational overload.
Ah, the irony.
Here we are now. 5 months in. Over 100 subscribers. A paid sponsor.
I wouldn’t have believed it if you told me I’d be writing a weekly newsletter.
But here we are!
And it’s been an answered prayer.
So what were the highlights?!?!
Notable media appearances:
🇯🇵 TV Tokyo
Yeah this is still LOL to me… but I was on the Japanese news.
I wrote about it here but below is the video…
